| Vairamuthu (Tamil: வைரமுத்து) (born: July 13, 1953) is an award-winning Tamil poet and lyricist.
Debuting in the film Nizhalgal (1980) with the lyrics for 'Ponmalai Pozhudhu', he has now about 5800 songs to his credit as of January 2009.[1]. His partnership with the composers Ilaiyaraaja, and later A. R. Rahman, have resulted in critical praise, awards, and box office hits. |

He is the President of the Dravidar Kazhagam, an Indian organization centered in Tamil Nadu, opposed to the caste system and dedicated to the welfare of non-Brahmins since 1978.He is the third President of the Dravidar Kazhagam and Chancellor of Periyar Maniammai University. |
